THE HISTORY CHANNEL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH PHOTO CONTEST OFFICIAL RULES - NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED

1. HOW TO ENTER: Contest is open only to students in grades 9-12, who attend a public or private school, or are home schooled at the 9-12 grade-level in the 50 United States as of 9/15/05. Students may enter the contest by submitting an original photo ('entry') depicting an Hispanic theme. Contest begins September 15, 2005, and ends October 31st, 2005. Entries must be submitted by either the student or the student's teacher (on behalf of a student). The photo must be in color and 4" x 6". Negatives and black and white photos are not eligible. The back of the photo should include the student's name, student's address, teacher's name, name of school, school address, school telephone number, grade, and local cable provider (if known). Do not write on the image itself (the front of the photo).The information submitted will be used solely for the purposes of notifying winners. Students and teachers may send entries to: THE HISTORY CHANNEL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH PHOTO CONTEST, P.O. Box 7243, Melville, NY 11775-7243. Students may enter as often as they wish, but each entry must be a different photo and each photo must be numbered. A student or teacher may submit multiple entries in bulk, as long as each entry contains the required information listed above. Photos will not be returned. Contest ends 10/31/2005 and entries must be postmarked no later than 10/31/05 and received no later than 11/11/2005. No digital enhancement of any kind will be permitted and images that have been modified or appear unnatural will be disqualified. Enhancements NOT Permitted include, but are not limited to, the addition of borders or frames to images, the addition of watermarks, signatures, or copyright notices to images, the use of artistic filters, adding or replacing elements to an image.

2. PRIZES/JUDGING: One Grand Prize winner, two First Prize winners and four Second Prize winners will be determined from among all eligible entries received. Odds of winning depend on total number of eligible entries received. Each winning student receives a prize, a prize for his/her teacher, and a prize for his/her school.

GRAND PRIZE (1): Student: $2,000 (awarded in the form of a check, to the student) School: A&E Television DVD Library (At least 8 hours in length) (Est. Retail Value : $200). Teacher: $500 (awarded in the form of a check, to the teacher).

FIRST PRIZE (2): Student: $500 (awarded in the form of a check, to the student) School: A&E Television DVD Library (At least 8 hours in length) (Est. Retail Value : $200). Teacher: $250 (awarded in the form of a check, to the teacher).

SECOND PRIZE (4): Student: $250 (awarded in the form of a check, to the student) School: A&E Television DVD Library (At least 8 hours in length) (Est. Retail Value : $200). Teacher: $100 (awarded in the form of the check, to the teacher).

Entries will be judged based on the following criteria: Creativity (1/3); Technical Proficiency (1/3); Effectiveness in conveying the Hispanic Heritage theme (1/3). Photos that are not 4" x 6" or contain lewd or inappropriate material, as deemed by Sponsor, in its sole discretion, are not eligible. Judging to determine winning students will be conducted by a panel of artists, graphic designers and educators selected by Sponsor whose decisions are final in all matters relating to this contest. In the event of a tie, tied entries will be re-judged based solely on creativity. All prizes will be awarded. Students and teachers of winning students will be notified by mail on or about 12/15/05. Limit one winner per person per household. Prizes are not transferable; no substitutions are allowed, except by the sponsor who reserves the right to award a prize of equal or greater value if advertised prize is unavailable. All student winners (if 18 or older) or their parent/legal guardians (if under 18) will be required to execute and return an affidavit of eligibility, authenticity, liability/publicity release and assignment of rights within 10 days of notification attempt or the prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner determined. Corresponding winning teachers will be required to complete a prize acceptance form prior to prize award after winning students are notified. Corresponding School prizes will be sent directly to the principal listed on the winning student's affidavit. Taxes, if any, related to the prize are the responsibility of the winning teacher, student, or the student's parent/legal guardian. No responsibility or liability is assumed for damages, losses or injury resulting from acceptance or use of any prize.

3. GENERAL: All entries must be the sole, original work of the entering student. Judges may disqualify previously submitted photos or those that have won previous awards or competitions. Entries become the property of A&E Television Networks and will not be acknowledged or returned. Entrants/winners acknowledge and agree that their entries become the property of A&E Television Networks, which thereby has the right to edit, adapt, modify, reproduce, publish, promote and otherwise use entries in any way it sees fit. Acceptance of prize by winners and prize recipients constitutes permission to use the winners' and prize recipients' names, entries and likenesses, including their grade, school and teacher, without further compensation, except where prohibited by law. No responsibility is assumed for lost, misdirected, illegible, damaged, postage due or late entries or mail. No information regarding entries or judging will be disclosed.

4. ELIGIBILITY: The contest is only open to students in grades 9-12, who attend a public or private school, or are home schooled at the 9-12 grade-level. Void in Puerto Rico and where prohibited by law. Employees of A&E Television Networks, Don Jagoda Associates, Inc., their family members, parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, and public relations agencies may not enter. This offer is subject to all federal, state and local laws.
