• Host a school-wide
Hispanics festival where each class picks a different Latino
culture to focus on. Given that Latinos comprise at least
20 different cultures, this might be a way to enlighten with
regards to how all Hispanics are NOT the same. The festival
can have different types of Hispanic food, artwork, pottery
and music.
• Poetry celebration– bring, read, or share your
favorite Hispanic poem
• Salsa/Merengue/Tango/Flamenco/Samba Lessons in your
classroom
• Do a cooking lesson/demonstration and have fun eating!
• Put on a show and invite folk dancers/singers/mariachi
band to entertain students
• Have students put on a show: dress up/fashion show,
display a popular dance from their country, put on a play
based on a historical Hispanic event
• Host a karaoke event with students singing to Hispanic
songs
• Host an Hispanic Film Festival
• Plan a Fiesta! school dance w/ Salsa, Merengue, or
Tejano music
• Hold a Scavenger Hunt based on items of Hispanic origins
• School Library Fiesta! - include cultural craft projects,
face painting, and a HUGE piñata
• Conduct a book signing from a Latino author or read
children’s books from Hispanic authors
• Have a puppet show - children can also create their
own puppet
• Host a weekly seminar on traditional Hispanic related
topics (history, food, music, clothing)
• Host an essay writing contest where each student uses
the internet to research a Hispanic personality
